Highway Z Improvements
Crawford, Bunte, & Brammeier have completed plans for improvements to Highway Z and Daniel Dunklin Blvd. and have sent them to MoDOT for review and comments. Construction is not expected to begin until 2012 because of how late in the construction season it is. The city hopes to go out for bid on the project this fall, with some infrastructure work performed over the winter and main road construction occuring in the spring.
New Off-Street Parking Requirements
The Board of Aldermen recently adopted new off-street parking regulations aimed at reducing an over abundance of parking spaces for businesses and move towards a more environmentally friendly material. Most new retail and service businesses will be required to install 4 spaces per thousand square foot of floor area instead of the old six to eight. Seeing how many shopping centers have underutilized parking areas was of major concern for Board members. Also, 1 of each four spaces is required to be a porous material like pervious concrete, porous asphalt, or open blocks. The Board believes the cost will offset between stormwater detention requirements and having a pavement that allows water to reach into the ground instead of running off into our over utilized storm water system.
